Nevada, rich in nearly all renewable energy sources, holds excellent resource potential for wind development, as do states like California, Idaho, and Washington. Even accounting for some limitations on land use, wind can play a big role in the state’s effort to build a clean, diversified, and robust energy portfolio. Utilities that are looking to the future and motivated by Nevada’s strong Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS) are ready to buy wind power.
Communities served by electric co-ops, municipal utilities, and power districts are increasingly interested in wind power as well.
Energy customers want to buy in, too,
recognizing that new small wind
systems are affordable,
as well as reliable and
environmentally appealing.
Yet transmission and siting issues challenge
wind advocates here. And the area’s slow start in
wind development has led to some information gaps.
The Nevada Wind Workshop is a two-day event
addressing these wind issues and opportunities.
The program will bring Nevada wind stakeholders
together to share a greater understanding of the Nevada
wind market and to advance wind development statewide.
